5 Tips to stay motivated on your Health Journey

Published on 14/12/2022

Embarking on a health journey is not only limited to weight loss goals; it is a personalised passage you take to improve your relationship with food, sleep better, move more, or even do things that bring you joy. To stay motivated on your healthy journey, it is important to understand the difference between a healthy lifestyle and following a diet. Sticking to your goals can be challenging at times; hence, here are a few tips:

1. Set realistic and achievable goals

Setting realistic and achievable goals increases your chances of success. Part of staying encouraged is giving yourself enough time to achieve your goal. For example, “I want to lose 10kg in 1 month” is an unrealistic goal that will hinder your success while “I want to lose 10kg in 5-6 months” is a realistic goal that helps shift your mindset and boost your confidence levels.

2. Write your goals down and assess your environment

Having a visual representation of your goals increases the chances of committing to them. Once that is achieved, you can assess your resources and surroundings by asking the following questions: Is it the right time for you to be working on this goal? Timing is crucial, so it is okay to postpone until you feel that you can be fully committed. What are the challenges that you might face along the way? Predicting the obstacles will help you better prepare to face them head-on. Are you surrounded by the right people? Having a motivating support group will help you along your health journey. Do you have all the knowledge and tools you need to achieve your goal? Asking for professional help might clear out any questions if you don’t know where to start or what tools to use to keep you confident and motivated.

3. Accept that the journey is not linear

Your health journey might be bumpy, and accepting this will help you stay motivated. Setbacks are inevitable, and it is important to factor those in your health journey as learning experiences rather than failures.

Invest in a Weight Loss meal plan that helps facilitate the process of adopting a healthy lifestyle.

4. Focus on the journey rather than just the end goal.

As mentioned before, visualizing your goals will help you stay invested in achieving them. However, rushing through the physical milestones can take a toll on your emotional and mental health which will in return cause you to lose your motivation before reaching the finish line.

5. Be kind and patient with yourself

Most importantly, be patient and kind to yourself. Self-compassion is the strongest motivator. Reward yourself when achieving small victories.
