Creating a Mindful Morning Routine

Published on 02/03/2023

Are you a morning person? Do you prefer coffee or tea? Do you have breakfast or tend to skip it? Everyone has their own morning routine; some of us prefer waking up late, getting dressed, and rushing to work, while others make it a point to get up ahead of time to enjoy their cup of joe and some self-care time before going to work.

Here are some tips on how to create a mindful morning routine:

Plan tomorrow on paper tonight

Set your intentions for the day and plan your tasks the night before. It will give you time to relax in the morning and have some quality quiet time to yourself. How about getting a daily planner? Writing down your thoughts and to-dos on paper can definitely help you commit more, invest in a convenient meal plan that saves you from lengthy deliberation over your meals every day and guarantees you a balanced diet.

Do not hit the snooze button

Set the alarm and put the phone away, so you won’t be tempted to hit the snooze. Snoozing will just make you feel sleepier and more sluggish during the day.

Let some natural light in

If your room has a window, open it and let some fresh air in. This can help boost your cortisol levels and awaken your alertness.

Sit still for a few minutes

Whether it’s in your bed, on your couch, or in your favorite spot, take a deep breath, do some stretches, and even meditate for a bit. By doing this, you’re setting yourself up for a smooth and intuitive day.

Ignore technology

Phones, laptops, TV can wait till later. Stay disconnected until you reach your office. If you are working from home, then don’t sit on your desk yet.

Enjoy your favourite morning drink

Whether you prefer coffee or tea while listening to some music or reading, it will elevate your serotonin level, the “feel good” hormone.

Exercise

If you have time to squeeze in a quick workout, why not? Moving your body early in the morning will boost your energy levels for the rest of the day. No matter what your personal morning routine looks like, just remember that it sets you up for the day. Lastly, remember setbacks are stepping stones. Embrace the chance to get back on track and let resilience guide you toward success.
